Frenzelit Novapress Universal
novapress® UNIVERSAL is a
gasket sheet material from Frenzelit, based on fiber reinforced with elastomer
(NBR).
Main Properties
• A combination of aramid fibers + functional fillers + NBR binder.
• Identification color: light green.
• Equipped with a PTFE anti-sticking surface on both sides.
• Density: approx. 1.8 g/cm³.
• Operating temperature range: from −100 °C up to approx. 250 °C (according to
Material Hub).
• High pressure resistance: can be used at pressures up to around 130 bar for
certain applications according to the catalog.
• Certifications/approvals include: DVGW, SVGW, HTB, KTW, WRAS, and compliance
with BS 7531 Grade X.
• Sheet dimensions: available in sizes 1000×1500 mm, 1500×1500 mm, 3000×1500
mm, and thickness options: 0.3 / 0.5 / 0.75 / 1.0 / 1.5 / 2.0 / 3.0 / 4.0 mm
(or upon request).
Applications
According to the brochure/catalog, novapress® UNIVERSAL is suitable for
applications requiring high technical performance, such as:
• Pipeline construction
• Chemical industry
• Machine and plant engineering
• Food & beverage industry (due to its compatibility with various
liquid/gas media)
• Because of its very low gas leakage and high tensile strength, it is
highly reliable for critical sealing applications.
Mechanical Properties & Performance
Important technical data include:
• According to Material Hub: compressibility ~6% (ASTM F36J).
• “Cold compression set” (permanent deformation after load at cold conditions):
relatively low (approx. 3% for 2 mm thickness).
• For “warm set” or long-term heat deformation and stress relaxation, the
catalog also shows strong performance.
• According to ASME/ASTM gasket constants, values such as m, y, y₁ are available for engineering flange/sealing
calculations.
Advantages and Considerations
Advantages
• Highly versatile (“universal”) — suitable for many media and
applications.
• High pressure and temperature resistance (for a non-metallic gasket).
• Low gas permeability → excellent for tightness-critical seals.
• Good oil resistance.
• PTFE surface reduces sticking/adhesion.
Limitations / Considerations
• For extreme applications (very high temperatures >250 °C or
aggressive chemicals), other materials may be more suitable.
• Being a sheet material, it may require special cutting methods (CNC,
stamping) according to gasket shape. Companies like Feasseal provide custom
cutting services.
• Cost may be higher compared to more basic gasket materials depending on size
and thickness.
