Working Principle
Gland packing functions by filling the space around a rotating or reciprocating shaft, known as the stuffing box. When the gland follower is tightened, it compresses the packing rings, creating an effective seal that prevents fluid leakage.
Installation Procedure
Proper installation of JIC 3067 gland packing is essential to ensure an effective and long-lasting seal. The general procedure includes:
- Prepare the Surface: Clean the stuffing box thoroughly, removing any remnants of old packing material.
- Measure and Cut: Cut the packing according to the shaft and stuffing box dimensions. Cuts are typically made at a 30–45° angle to ensure tight joints.
- Insert Rings: Install the packing rings one by one, ensuring each ring fits properly. Stagger the joints by at least 90° for better sealing.
- Tighten Evenly: Gradually and evenly tighten the gland nuts until the optimal seal is achieved.
