Novaphit MST
- Novaphit® MST is a gasket material from Frenzelit (a Germany-based manufacturer), belonging to the series of expanded-graphite–based gasket products.
- The material is made of high-quality pure graphite layers combined with multiple metal insert layers (either expanded metal or flat metal) — with configurations of up to eight graphite layers and seven metal inserts depending on the thickness.
- This multilayer structure provides a combination of graphite sealing performance and the mechanical strength of metal, making it suitable for heavy-duty applications.
Key Specifications & Characteristics
- Operating temperature range: –200 °C to +550 °C.
- Internal pressure resistance: up to 250 bar.
- Wide chemical resistance, making it suitable for many media/fluids.
- High adaptability to flange imperfections (flange unevenness), allowing good sealing even on worn or rough flange surfaces.
- Resistant to load changes, repeated stresses, and temperature/pressure fluctuations — offering excellent dimensional stability.
- Designed to comply with standards such as DIN EN 13555 and meets emission and leakage requirements specified in TA Luft / VDI 2290.
Where & When It Is Used
Novaphit MST is suitable for heavy-duty and critical applications, such as:
- High-temperature and high-pressure piping/flange systems — steam lines, hot reactors, boilers, heat exchangers.
- Chemical, petrochemical, and energy industries, where media may be corrosive or aggressive and operating conditions are extreme.
- Situations where flanges may be imperfect, worn, or scratched — taking advantage of the adaptive properties of graphite + metal.
- Projects requiring very reliable, long-lasting sealing with minimal leakage, especially under varying loads and temperatures.
Advantages & Considerations
Advantages:
- Combination of graphite sealing + metal mechanical strength → high performance at extreme temperatures and pressures.
- Excellent sealing capability, low leakage, high stability, and strong chemical resistance.
- Easy to process/cut/shape — can even be cut manually on-site.
- Reduces leakage risk, ideal for critical industrial applications.
Points to consider:
- As a premium high-performance gasket, the cost may be higher than standard gasket materials.
- Selection of thickness and metal insert type must be adjusted according to flange conditions, operating pressure, and temperature.
